The science behind modern weight management

Decades of research into metabolism and GLP-1 biology have helped transform the treatment of obesity.

GLP-1, in public conversation

From Hollywood to India, a new approach to weight loss is making headlines.

What each person has actually said. A reported change in weight is their account, not a result Go Active can offer.

  • Elon Musk

Has publicly discussed using Wegovy and, later, Mounjaro.

  • Oprah Winfrey

Has spoken about using a prescription weight-loss medicine. She has not publicly named the drug.

  • Hansal Mehta

Has publicly discussed using Mounjaro, and said he was down nearly 10 kg in a few months.

  • Aishwarya Mohanraj

Has publicly discussed using Mounjaro, and said her weight went from 74 kg to 52 kg over six months.

  • Tanmay Bhat

Has publicly discussed experimenting with a GLP-1 medicine. He said an earlier loss of more than 75 kg was without one.

  • Ram Kapoor

Said he went from about 140 kg to 85 kg. He described two meals a day, one late in the morning and one in the early evening, with cardio and strength training.

  • Karan Johar

Described a clear change in his weight. He said that, after treatment for a thyroid condition, he ate one meal a day for about seven months, with no lactose, gluten, or sugar.

  • Badshah

Said he lost about 20 kg. He described smaller portions, more salads, and regular training, after finding he ran short of breath quickly on stage.

  • Jr NTR

Lost weight for a film role. His director has said he dropped about 15 kg over four months. His trainer described morning sessions built around cardio and functional work.

The science behind the treatment

More than weight loss. A deeper understanding of metabolic health.

GLP-1-based medicines have been studied for their effects on appetite, blood sugar, cardiovascular outcomes, and other health conditions. What the evidence shows depends on the medicine, the population studied, and the outcome measured.

Appetite and weight

Helping regulate appetite.

Semaglutide acts on pathways involved in appetite regulation. In clinical trials, it helped participants reduce body weight when combined with lifestyle interventions.

Blood sugar

Metabolic health matters, too.

GLP-1-based medicines can affect blood glucose regulation. Some are approved for type 2 diabetes, while specific medicines have separate indications for weight management.

Cardiovascular health

Evidence beyond the scales.

In the SELECT trial, semaglutide 2.4 mg reduced major adverse cardiovascular events compared with placebo in adults with overweight or obesity, established cardiovascular disease, and no diabetes.

Sleep apnea

Weight management and sleep health.

The SURMOUNT-OSA trials found that tirzepatide reduced the severity of obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity and moderate-to-severe disease.

Questions

Plain answers.

Will I get a prescription?

Not necessarily. A doctor decides whether medication is clinically appropriate.

Can the chart predict my weight?

No. It is a general illustration, not a personal weight prediction.

Do these medicines have risks?

Yes. Your doctor should discuss the potential benefits, risks, and whether a medicine is suitable for you.

What if I have side effects?

Tell your clinician. For chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, severe abdominal pain, or thoughts of harming yourself, call 112.

Can weight return if treatment stops?

Yes. Weight can return after treatment stops. Do not stop a prescription without speaking to your clinician.

Is the form a diagnosis?

No. The form is a screening assessment, not a diagnosis.

Are my health answers sent to analytics?
